Robert Freeman

Robert Freeman is most famous for his album cover photos for The Beatles as well as his design work on the Beatles two films.

During the years 1963 to 1966 he was one of the Beatles favourite photographers who shot arguably the most iconic images of The Beatles. He photographed five consecutive album covers for the Beatles UK album releases on the Parlophone label. Most of thosephotographs were adapted for the US album releases.

Apart from taking photoraphs of the Beatles Robert Freeman also become noted for his black-and-white photographs of several jazz musicians including John Coltrane. It was these photographs that impressed the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein and the Beatles themselves that led to his first commission in August 1963 to photograph the group.
